It has recently come to everyone’s attention that soy may not be as healthy as everyone has made it seem to be. In fact, for many individuals, the side effects and risk of soy can actually prevail over the benefits of soy. So before you decide to consume soy on a daily basis in order to gain the “so-called” benefits, educate yourself on these side effects:
Many people are actually allergic to soy. When you consume soy and have tingling of the lips, trouble breathing, or possibly even rashes, then it is very likely you are allergic to soy products. Contact your health professional immediately or visit the nearest hospital or urgent care center to be treated.
Soy products can cause digestive products. You can experience an upset stomach during the consumption of soy products. This is not only true in adults, but children and infants as well. Some cases could be minor while others could be severe.
It has been said that the use of soy supplements can cause the uterine lining thickening, and for women, this could create a much higher risk to develop uterine cancer.
There have also been studies related to soy isoflavones and the increasing or decreasing of hormonally linked cancer. It has not yet been determined whether soy can create a higher risk or a lower risk of cancers such as ovarian cancer and breast cancer.
Another side effect of soy is related to that of absorbing important minerals that your body needs in order to survive and function properly. However, thus research has not been able to prove that this in on such a high level that it effects you.
Finally, soy products when consumed can decrease the functions of your thyroids. The reason for this is because when the soy is consumed there is a hormonal change because of the soy isoflavones. Dependent upon the soy product that is consumed, this may not pose a problem as not all soy products cause this.
All side effects will depend on each and every person as everyone is different and the way one reacts to specific consumed products or ingredients is different as well.
